Green Lemon: The Pulse of South Tampa’s Party Scen
If South Howard Avenue (SoHo) is the heart of Tampa’s nightlife, then Green Lemon is the adrenaline shot that keeps it beating.
As a local, I’ve been to Green Lemon for everything from "I just need a quick taco" lunches to "oops, we stayed until closing" Friday nights. It is arguably the most energetic concept in the Ciccio Restaurant Group lineup, and for good reason. This isn't just a restaurant; it’s a vibe, and it’s one of my absolute favorite spots to bring out-of-towners when they want to see what Tampa energy is all about.
The Vibe: "I Didn't Call You, Tequila Did"
The moment you walk in, you are greeted by that neon sign. You know the one—it’s on everyone’s Instagram story. "I Didn't Call You, Tequila Did."
It sets the tone perfectly. Green Lemon is loud, colorful, and unapologetically fun. The music is usually bumping (often with a live DJ), the decor is a mix of rustic and electric, and the staff brings a level of energy that is infectious. Their website mentions striving for "connection" and an "engaging staff," and you really feel that. It’s a safe, empowering space where everyone is just there to have a good time.
The Liquid Courage: Strong Margaritas
They claim to serve "Strong Margaritas," and as a margarita connoisseur, I can confirm: they are not bluffing. Whether you are sipping a classic Skinny Marg or braving the legendary Margona (a frozen margarita with an upside-down Corona bottle), these drinks pack a punch.
Local Tip: You have to hit up Fiesta Hour. It runs every day from 3 PM to 7 PM. Yes, every day. It’s the golden window for $6 margs and cheap eats that draws in everyone from college students to young professionals clocking out for the day.
The Food: "Street Fare" with a Flare
Green Lemon brands itself as serving "Fresh Mexican-Inspired Street Fare," but it’s so much more elevated than your standard street taco.
The Street Trio: This is the move. You get to mix and match three tacos. My go-to rotation?
Gigante Chicken: Crispy fried chicken (Gluten-Free!), buffalo sauce, and blue cheese. It’s iconic.
Cerdo Perfecto: Roast pork with a citrus kick.
Ancho Short Rib: If you’re feeling fancy.
Locos Nachos: These aren't your sad, soggy bowling alley nachos. Every chip is perfectly layered with queso, black bean puree, and guac. It’s an architectural marvel.
Dietary Friendly? Always.
Like its sister restaurant Taco Dirty, Green Lemon is incredibly accommodating.
Gluten-Free: Their fried chicken is GF, and they have plenty of corn tortilla options.
Vegetarian/Vegan: The Crispy Trees (fried cauliflower) and veggie tacos mean you don't have to just eat chips and salsa while your friends feast.
The Verdict
Green Lemon isn't the place to go for a quiet, romantic whisper-conversation. It’s the place you go to celebrate, to laugh loud, and to eat incredible food while doing it. It perfectly captures the "Work Hard, Play Hard" spirit of South Tampa.
If the tequila calls, you better pick up.
Must Order: The Gigante Chicken Tacos and a Margona (share it... or don't).
